DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 6, 2022) -Despite senior Katie Wall (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) recording her 1,000th career point, the Mercy College women's basketball team dropped a 55-46 decision to Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday night at the Neil Judge Student Athlete Center.

The Mavericks (4-5) have dropped three of their last four games, while the Griffins (4-4) improve to .500 on the year.

Wall recorded her 1,000th career point with 33 seconds left in the fourth quarter to become the 20th student-athlete in program history to reach the milestone. Wall reached the mark in 72 games and ended the night with a team-high 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Graduate student Taysha Bender (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) netted eight points and had a game-high seven rebounds. Bender is now 11 points shy of 1,000 for her career. Senior Kellie Nudd (Colchester, Conn./Bacon Academy) and freshman Angelina Barrera (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) both scored six points and freshman Megan Marcotte (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) had a career-high five points.

Chestnut Hill was led by Bri Hewlett and Leah Miller who both had 10 points.

Mercy held a 7-5 lead at the 6:41 mark of the first quarter after a Wall three. Chestnut Hill answered with an 8-0 run to take a 13-7 lead with 34 seconds left in the quarter. A late Bender jumper cut the Griffins lead to four, 13-9, after the first quarter.

The Mavericks opened the second quarter on a 9-4 run, capped off by a pair of Nudd free throws, to take an 18-17 lead with 3:29 left in the half. Chestnut Hill followed with an 8-2 run to take the lead back at 25-20 with 35 seconds remaining in the half. A Nudd free throw made it 25-21 in favor of the Griffins at halftime.

The Griffins opened the second half with three straight points to take a 28-21 lead. A layup from Maria Tedesco (Ocean Township, N.J./St. Rose) and a layup from Wall cut the Chestnut Hill lead to three, 28-25, with 8:21 left in the period. The Griffins responded with a 14-2 run to take their largest lead of the game, 42-27, with 2:52 on the clock. Back-to-back threes from Wall and Nudd made it a nine-point game, 42-33, but a late Chestnut Hill free throw gave the visitors a 43-33 lead after three quarters.

A Barrera jumper to open the fourth quarter cut the Chestnut Hill lead to eight and Marcotte later made two free throws to make it 45-37 with 8:59 left to play. Back-to-back baskets from the Griffins made it 49-37 with 5:52 remaining.
