Game Preview: RV Women's Soccer Hosts Adelphi on Tuesday

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is coming off an impressive 5-1 win at Wilmington on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Nikki Bermudez who had a team-high two goals. Juniors Kayla Camacho and Toni Valadez and graduate student Claudia McKail also scored. Mercy is looking to start 3-1 for the first time since 2019 and is 1-6-1 in their last eight matchups against Adelphi. However, the Mavericks are 1-0-1 in their last two meetings against the Panthers and haven't lost to them since 2017. Bermudez and Camacho both have an ECC-leading three goals of the year and freshman Ancksu Dixon has an ECC-best seven points on the year on two goals and three assists. McKail has a goal and an assist and Valadez, graduate student Jessica Hoyt, and junior Skyler Schwenkler also have a goal on the season. Graduate student Sydney Cooper and junior Madison Rosa also have two assists each on the year. Freshman Kamy Anaya is 2-1 in goal this season with five saves, a .625 save percentage and 1.08 goals-against average. The Mavericks are coming off a season in which they went 12-5-4 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the ninth straight season. Mercy earned a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship and made the ECC Championship Final for the first time since 2017. The Mavericks ended the season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and begin the 2022 season receiving votes. Leading the returners for 2021 ECC Coach of the Year Danny Leon Jr. is Cooper who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year, D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches All-Region and First Team All-ECC after playing a team-high 1,902 minutes in 2021. Mercy also returns their top scorer from last year McKail who had a team-high six goals and 14 points. First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection Bermudez also returns after recording 13 points on five goals and three assists. Camacho also returns after posting four goals and two assists and Dominique Bono comes back after scoring four goals. Rosa returns after leading the team in assists in 2021 with six and Marlene Avalos returns after having seven points on two goals and three assists. Tyra Anderson, Hoyt and First Team All-ECC selection Schwenkler also return for the Mavericks.

Scouting the Panthers

Adelphi earned a 6-0 win at Georgian Court on Wednesday. The Panthers opened their season on August 26th with a 2-0 loss to Molloy before earning a 5-1 win at Wilmington on August 28th. Adelphi was selected fourth in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 7-6-3 in 2021, advancing to the NE10 Championship Quarterfinals. The Panthers return their top two scorers from a year ago in Carly Issing and Maria D'Angelo. Kayla Mushorn also returns on defense after being named NE10 Defensive Player of the Week twice last season. Adelphi has been led by Madison Apicella who has a team-high six points on a goal and team-high four assists. Victoria Colatosti, Gia Mandile and Hailey Franco all have a team-high two goals. Issing has three points on a goal and an assist and Krista Aliscio is 2-1 in goal with three saves in 225 minutes of action with a .500 save percentage and 1.20 goals-against average.
