Dalmau Scores Game-Winning Goal in 80th Minute as RV Men's Soccer Earns 1-0 Win Over AIC

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 7, 2022) – Powered by the game-winning goal in the 80th minute from junior Daniel Dalmau (Madrid, Spain/College of International Studies-Endicott), off an assist from freshman Mathias Schilbred-Eriksen (Bergen, Norway/Tertnes Videregaende Skole), the RV Mercy College men's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over 2021 NCAA Tournament participant American International College on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (3-1-1) remain unbeaten at home and earn their first win over the Yellow Jackets (1-2-2) since 2016.

Dalmau recorded his first goal of the season and Schilbred-Eriksen dished out his second assist of the season. Junior Daniel Rodriguez (Caracas, Venezuela/Erskine College) and senior Vasco Baptista (Alges, Portugal/Escola Secudaria Miraflores) both had a team-high two shots on goal. Sophomore Eirik Elvestad (Oslo, Norway/Blindern VGS) did not face a shot on goal to earn his second win of the season.

AIC was led by Samir Regragui, Christian Amaral and Thomas Lafayette who all recorded a shot. Paul Zumbo made eight saves to take the loss.

Mercy dominated the action throughout, holding a 12-1 edge in shots at halftime. However, the game remained scoreless at halftime due to Zumbo making four saves.

The Mavericks continued to apply pressure to the AIC backline in the second half, maintaining a 12-2 edge in shots. The game headed into the final 15 minutes scoreless until Schilbred-Eriksen sent a cross from left to right and Dalmau slid to the goal kicking the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 in the 80th minute.

Mercy's backline would not allow a Yellow Jacket shot on goal the entire game to give the Mavericks a 1-0 win.

Mercy held a 24-3 edge in shots and a 9-0 edge in shots on goal. The Mavericks held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Pedro Velazquez and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, September 10th when they play at Daemen at 1:30 p.m.
