Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks dropped a 3-1 decision to Wilmington in their last game on Thursday. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 14-3-2 and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The Mavericks won their third ECC Tournament Championship and their first outright Regular Season Championship. Mercy looks to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the 10th straight season. The Mavericks ended the 2022 season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll and begin the 2023 season receiving votes. Mercy was picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and return three of their top five goal scorers from last season. They also return eight student-athletes who started at least 10 matches for the 2022 squad. Senior Kayla Camacho was named the ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after finishing second in the conference with 11 goals and 27 points a year ago en route to All-Conference First Team honors and All-Region accolades. Also returning is reigning ECC Goalkeeper of the Year sophomore Kamy Anaya who went 13-3-2 last season with 45 saves, a .789 save percentage and 0.70 goals-against average. Last year's ECC Rookie of the Year Ancksu Dixon also returns after recording a team-high 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. Head Coach Jack Nicholson also returns All-Conference honorees in graduate student Tyra Anderson and seniors Skyler Schwenkler, Jennifer Silva, and Madison Rosa. Mercy has been led by sophomore Maleah Tarin who has been named ECC Rookie of the Week twice and has a team-high four goals and eight points. Dixon has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and has three goals and one assist. She scored the game-winning goal against Southern Connecticut State. Rosa scored the game-winning goal against Dominican on September 6th and has two goals on the year. Junior Amiah Washington also has two goals on the year and freshman Angelina Ortiz netted her first collegiate goal in the win over Dominican. Senior Marlene Avalos has a goal and an assist and Camacho and Schwenkler both have a team-high two assists on the year. Anderson, Silva, and junior Valeria Rodriguez all have an assist. Anaya is 5-4-3 in goal with 38 saves, a .731 save percentage and 1.17 goals-against average. She has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on October 16th. Tarin was named to the ECC Honor Roll on October 9th. The Mavericks are 4-0 all-time against Lincoln.
Scouting the Lions
Lincoln is coming off a 5-1 loss at Staten Island on Wednesday. The Lions were picked ninth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 1-13 last season. Lincoln has been led by Jordan Allison who has a team-high 15 points on a team-high seven goals with one assist. Oshynn Cosom is second on the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists and Grace Quiah has four goals and two assists. Keilani Broadnax and Nialah Crawford both have four goals and Ariel Reyes has 111 saves, a .721 save percentage and 3.55 goals-against average.
