Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks dropped a 1-0 decision at Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday in their last game. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 14-3-2 and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The Mavericks won their third ECC Tournament Championship and their first outright Regular Season Championship. Mercy looks to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the 10th straight season. The Mavericks ended the 2022 season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll and begin the 2023 season receiving votes. Mercy was picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and return three of their top five goal scorers from last season. They also return eight student-athletes who started at least 10 matches for the 2022 squad. Senior Kayla Camacho was named the ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after finishing second in the conference with 11 goals and 27 points a year ago en route to All-Conference First Team honors and All-Region accolades. Also returning is reigning ECC Goalkeeper of the Year sophomore Kamy Anaya who went 13-3-2 last season with 45 saves, a .789 save percentage and 0.70 goals-against average. Last year's ECC Rookie of the Year Ancksu Dixon also returns after recording a team-high 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. Interim Head Coach Jack Nicholson also returns All-Conference honorees in graduate student Tyra Anderson and seniors Skyler Schwenkler, Jennifer Silva, and Madison Rosa. Mercy has been led by sophomore Maleah Tarin who has been named ECC Rookie of the Week twice and has a team-high three goals and six points. Dixon was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on September 5th and also has a goal. Rosa scored the game-winning goal against Dominican on September 6th and has two goals on the year. Freshman Angelina Ortiz netted her first collegiate goal in the win over the Chargers. Camacho, Avalos, Anderson, Silva and junior Valeria Rodriguez all have an assist and Anaya is 3-3-2 in goal with 20 saves, a .690 save percentage and 1.13 goals-against average. She was named to the ECC Honor Roll on September 11th. The Mavericks are 13-3-2 in their last 18 matchups against the Spartans and have won nine straight meetings. Mercy last lost St. Thomas Aquinas on September 22, 2007.

St. Thomas Aquinas is coming off a 5-2 loss to Jefferson on Tuesday. The Spartans were picked sixth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 5-10-3 last season. St. Thomas Aquinas is led by senior Rachel Brownell who has a team-high five goals and 11 points. Jo Porter has two goals and an assist and Jasmine Blue has a goal and a team-high three assists. Ella Connolly has two goals and Haley Liss is 2-3 in goal with 20 saves, a .645 save percentage and 2.91 goals-against average. Catalena Robson is 0-3 in goal with 26 saves, a .703 save percentage and 2.61 goals-against average.
