Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks earned a 2-0 win over Daemen on Saturday for their third straight win to end the regular season. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 14-3-2 and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The Mavericks won their third ECC Tournament Championship and their first outright Regular Season Championship. Mercy looks to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the 10th straight season. The Mavericks ended the 2022 season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll and begin the 2023 season receiving votes. Mercy was picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and return three of their top five goal scorers from last season. They also return eight student-athletes who started at least 10 matches for the 2022 squad. Senior Kayla Camacho was named the ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after finishing second in the conference with 11 goals and 27 points a year ago en route to All-Conference First Team honors and All-Region accolades. Also returning is reigning ECC Goalkeeper of the Year sophomore Kamy Anaya who went 13-3-2 last season with 45 saves, a .789 save percentage and 0.70 goals-against average. Last year's ECC Rookie of the Year Ancksu Dixon also returns after recording a team-high 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. Head Coach Jack Nicholson also returns All-Conference honorees in graduate student Tyra Anderson and seniors Skyler Schwenkler, Jennifer Silva, and Madison Rosa. Mercy has been led by sophomore Maleah Tarin who has been named ECC Rookie of the Week twice and has four goals and nine points. Dixon has been named to the ECC Honor Roll three times and has a team-high five goals, three assists and 13 points. She scored the game-winning goal against Southern Connecticut State. Rosa scored the game-winning goal against Dominican on September 6th and scored both goals in the win over Daemen on October 28th. She was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday and has four goals on the year. Junior Amiah Washington has four goals on the year and freshman Angelina Ortiz netted her first collegiate goal in the win over Dominican and has three goals on the year. Ortiz netted the game-winning goal against Holy Family on October 25th. Junior Elizabeth Bowles recorded her first goal of the season in the Mavericks win over Lincoln on October 22nd. Senior Marlene Avalos has a goal and an assist and Camacho, junior Valeria Rodriguez and Schwenkler all have two assists on the year. Anderson and Silva both have an assist. Anaya is 8-4-3 in goal with 41 saves, a .745 save percentage and 0.93 goals-against average. She has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on October 16th. Tarin was named to the ECC Honor Roll on October 9th. The Mavericks are making their 10th straight ECC Championship appearance and are looking to win their fourth ECC Championship in program history. Mercy is also ranked 10th in the latest United Soccer Coaches East Region Poll and is 2-0-1 all-time against the Saints.
Scouting the Saints
D'Youville is coming off a 2-0 loss at Queens on Saturday for their second straight loss. The Saints are making their first-ever ECC Championship appearance in their first season eligible for the tournament after making the transition from Division III. D'Youville was picked seventh in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 3-12-1 last season. The Saints are led by Laoise O'Haodha who has a team-high 10 points on a team-high five goals. Izzy Deachman and Ella Hurrle both have three goals and Jeslyn-Brooke Vallesteros has seven points on two goals and a team-high-tying three assists. Hannah Woodhouse has seven points on two goals and a team-high-tying three assists. Kailie Regan is 3-5-2 in goal with 46 saves, a .719 save percentage and 1.97 goals-against average.
