WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2023) – Mercy University volleyball senior Larissa Schneid (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Iowa Western CC) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Volleyball Player of the Year and senior Yarianne Gonzalez (Manati, Puerto Rico/Monroe College) has been tabbed Setter of the Year. Schneid was named First Team All-ECC and Gonzalez and graduate student Julia Pomerleau (Portland, Maine/University of Southern Maine) were tabbed Second Team All-ECC.
Schneid is named Player of the Year for the first time and named First Team All-ECC for the third straight year after being named to the ECC Honor Roll eight times. The senior currently leads the team with 276 kills and 3.78 kills per set and is second with 216 digs. The outside hitter ranks fifth in the ECC in kills and is second in kills per set. Schneid also ranks in the top 10 in the ECC in digs and digs per set. Schneid has recorded double-digit kills in all but four matches this season and has 10 double-doubles on the year. The senior had a season-high 21 kills at Roberts Wesleyan and at D'Youville and had a season-high 21 digs at D'Youville on October 22nd.
Gonzalez is named Setter of the Year and Second Team All-ECC for the second straight year. The senior was also named First Team All-ECC in 2021 and has been named ECC Setter of the Week twice this season. The setter has also been named to the ECC Honor Roll five times and leads the team with 666 assists and 9.94 assists per set. Gonzalez is also third on the team with 135 digs and is second with 26 aces. The senior leads the ECC in assists per set and is fourth in assists. Gonzalez has recorded double-digit assists in all but two matches and had four double-doubles on the year. The setter had a season-high 50 assists at D'Youville on October 22nd and had a season-high 12 digs with 47 assists at Roberts Wesleyan on September 24th. Gonzalez also recorded her 2,000th career assist during the season.
Pomerleau receives Second Team All-ECC honors for the second straight season after being named ECC Player of the Week once. The one-time ECC Honor Roll recipient had 170 kills and a team-high 55 blocks on an ECC-best .393 hitting. The middle blocker ranks sixth in the ECC in blocks per set and total blocks. The graduate student's .393 hitting percentage ranks No. 16 in Division II. Pomerleau had a season-high 17 kills on .556 hitting against D'Youville on October 8th and had 16 kills at St. Thomas Aquinas on October 14th. The graduate student also had a season-high six blocks at Bentley and against Roberts Wesleyan.
