GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Mar. 21, 2023) – Despite a team-high two hits and a run scored from junior Shannon Sisco (Cicero, N.Y./Mansfield University) in game two, the Mercy College softball team dropped 4-0 and 9-1 decisions to No. 16 Adelphi University on Tuesday afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field.

The Mavericks (3-15) see their two-game winning streak come to an end, while the Panthers (12-3) have won eight straight matchups against Mercy.

Game 1: Adelphi 4, Mercy 0

The game remained scoreless heading to the fifth inning with senior Alexi Benson (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) and Adelphi starter Lindsey Hibbs not allowing any runs through the first four innings. Senior Samantha Franck (La Habra Heights, Calif./La Habra) reached base in the top of the fifth on a hit by pitch giving Mercy their first baserunner of the game. However, Hibbs struck out the next three batters to keep the Mavericks scoreless.

Adelphi would score all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. After three singles loaded the bases, Jordyn Pasqueralli hit an inside-the-park home run to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.

Senior Sydney Johnston (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) was the Mavericks second baserunner in the top of the seventh, but Hibbs would hold Mercy hitless throughout the seven innings to give Adelphi the 4-0 win.

Benson pitched five innings with four runs allowed and four strikeouts to take the loss. Freshman Marina Provencio (Saugus, Calif./Saugus) pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Adelphi was led by Pasqueralli who went 1-for-3 with four RBI. Hibbs tossed a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts to earn the win.
