Scouting the Mavericks
The Mavericks dropped a 1-0 decision to Adelphi on Tuesday. Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 14-3-2 and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The Mavericks won their third ECC Tournament Championship and their first outright Regular Season Championship. Mercy looks to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight season and make the ECC Championship for the 10th straight season. The Mavericks ended the 2022 season receiving votes nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll and begin the 2023 season receiving votes. Mercy was picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and return three of their top five goal scorers from last season. They also return eight student-athletes who started at least 10 matches for the 2022 squad. Senior Kayla Camacho was named the ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after finishing second in the conference with 11 goals and 27 points a year ago en route to All-Conference First Team honors and All-Region accolades. Also returning is reigning ECC Goalkeeper of the Year sophomore Kamy Anaya who went 13-3-2 last season with 45 saves, a .789 save percentage and 0.70 goals-against average. Last year's ECC Rookie of the Year Ancksu Dixon also returns after recording a team-high 33 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. Interim Head Coach Jack Nicholson also returns All-Conference honorees in graduate student Tyra Anderson and seniors Skyler Schwenkler, Jennifer Silva, and Madison Rosa. Mercy has been led by sophomore Maleah Tarin who was named ECC Rookie of the Week last week and has a goal. Dixon was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll last Monday and also has a goal. Rosa scored the game-winning goal against Dominican on Wednesday and freshman Angelina Ortiz netted her first collegiate goal in the win over the Chargers. Camacho and junior Valeria Rodriguez both have an assist and Anaya is 1-2-1 in goal with 13 saves, a .684 save percentage and 1.50 goals-against average. She was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday. Mercy is currently ranked fourth in the United Soccer Coaches East Region poll and look to improve to 3-0 all-time against the Saints. The Mavericks look to win their ECC opener for the 10th straight season.
Scouting the Saints
D'Youville is coming off a 3-1 loss to Post on Sunday. The Saints were picked seventh in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 3-12-1 last season. D'Youville is led by Izzy Deachman and Laoise Ohaodha who both have a goal. Jeslyn-Brooke Vallesteros has a team-high two assists and Kallie Regan is 0-2-1 in goal with 12 saves, a .667 save percentage and 2.00 goals-against average. Katie Liljenquist is 0-1 with two saves, a .500 save percentage and 2.00 goals-against average.
