BUFFALO, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2023) – Powered by a goal from junior Amiah Washington (Clifton, N.J./University of Bridgeport), the Mercy University women's soccer team opened ECC play with a 1-1 draw at D'Youville University on Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field.
The Mavericks (1-2-2, 0-0-1 ECC) open ECC play with a draw, while the Saints (0-3-2, 0-0-1 ECC) also begin ECC play with a draw.
Mercy was led by Washington who recorded her first goal as a Maverick. Sophomore Kamy Anaya (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) made two saves to earn the tie.
D'Youville was led by Izzy Deachman who scored and by Kallie Regan who made a game-high six saves.
Anaya made her first save in the 16th minute to keep the game scoreless. Regan made a stop in the 29th minute and the teams headed into halftime tied at 0-0.
Senior Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) hit the right post in the 46th minute and Regan made four saves in the first 11 minutes of the second half to keep the score 0-0.
Regan made another save in the 63rd minute before Washington found the back of the net in the 76th minute following a shot from the left side that found its way past Regan to give Mercy a 1-0 lead.
The Mavericks held a 1-0 lead heading into the final minute of play when Deachman scored following a shot from the right side that found the upper right corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1 with 46 seconds left.
Neither team would score in the final 46 seconds and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Mercy held a 19-5 edge in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Interim Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, September 23rd when they play at Queens at 5 p.m.
