ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (May 3, 2024) – Despite five strong innings in the circle from graduate student Alexi Benson (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) and a team-high two hits from senior Shannon Sisco (Cicero, N.Y./Mansfield University), the No. 4 seeded Mercy University softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to No. 3 seeded Queens College in Game Four of the ECC Softball Championship on Friday afternoon.

The Mavericks (14-28) see their season end in the ECC Championship for the fourth straight season, while the Knights (18-26) saw their season end with a loss to St. Thomas Aquinas in Game Five later in the day.

Mercy was led by Sisco who went 2-for-3 and by graduate student Samantha Franck (La Habra Heights, Calif./La Habra), junior Victoria Seppala (Abington, Mass./Abington) and freshman Dylan Reyer (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) who all went 1-for-3. Benson tossed five innings with just two runs and six hits allowed to take the loss. Sophomore Mackayla Secoda (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Queens was led by Caylea Campbell who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and tossed a complete game with just five hits allowed and six strikeouts to earn the win.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Queens scored two runs on a Campbell two-run double to take a 2-0 lead.

Mercy loaded the bases in the sixth inning after Sisco singled, freshman Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) reached on a fielder's choice and Franck singled. A strikeout ended the inning with the bases loaded.

Reyer singled with two outs in the seventh inning, but was left stranded, giving Queens the 2-0 win.
