Dixon Sets School Record for Career Points as Women's Soccer Earns 2-2 Draw Against Molloy in ECC Opener

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. — Powered by senior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) setting the school record for career points, the Mercy University Women's Soccer Team earned a 2-2 draw against Molloy University in their ECC opener on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (4-0-1, 0-0-1 ECC) continue their best start since 2013 and earn a draw against the defending ECC Champion Lions (2-2-2, 0-0-1 ECC) in the regular season for the first time since 2016.

Mercy led Molloy 1-0 at halftime, capitalizing on a strong offensive presence throughout the first half. Freshman Camila Salvador (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) broke the stalemate with a goal at the 26:57 mark, assisted by graduate student Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin). The Mavericks dominated the half with eight shots, five of which were on target, but all were saved by Molloy goalkeeper Elyse Munoz except for Salvador's decisive strike. Molloy managed three shots, none on target.

In a tightly contested match, Mercy and Molloy ended in a 2-2 draw. The Mavericks took a 2-0 lead in the second half with Dixon scoring in the 63rd minute, assisted by Salvador, but Molloy responded quickly. Isabella Muro equalized in the 64th minute with an assist from Gianna Zawol, before Jana Strait converted a penalty kick in the 70th minute to even the score at 2-2. Despite several attempts, including shots from junior Ella Gallino (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) and senior Emma Best (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), the Mavericks were unable to secure the win, earning a 2-2 draw in their ECC opener.

Salvador scored her first collegiate goal and recorded an assist, finishing with three shots, all on target. Dixon recorded her fifth goal of the season and now has a school-record 88 career points, surpassing the previous record of 86 set by Haley Noble in 2018. Rosa contributed with an assist and registered one shot in the match.

Molloy's standout players include Munoz, who recorded seven saves in goal, highlighting her defensive capabilities. Muro contributed offensively with one goal. Strait also found the back of the net, scoring one goal from three shots, including a successful penalty shot. Zawol added to the team's efforts with one assist, facilitating the attack.

Mercy held a 13-7 edge in shots, a 9-2 edge in shots on goal and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.

Looking ahead, Mercy will host Wilmington University (Del.) on September 24. The match is set for a noon kickoff in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., as the Mavericks look to capitalize on their home field advantage.
