COLONIA, N.J. – Mercy University Women's Basketball junior Grace Lesko (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for Week Eight. Senior Angelina Barrera (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) and sophomore Morgan Miller (Branford, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) have been tabbed to the Honor Roll.
Lesko averaged a team-high 15.3 points per game on 56.7 percent shooting with 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals per game and a team-high 5.7 assists per game as Mercy went 3-0 on the week with all three wins coming by 20-plus points. The junior opened the week with a double-double by way of 15 points and a career-high 10 assists to go with five rebounds and one steal in the win over Bloomfield on Monday. The forward then had 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting with six rebounds, four assists and one steal in the win over Dominican on Thursday. Lesko ended the week with a double-double by way of 12 points and 12 rebounds to go with three assists and four steals in the win at Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday.
Barrera averaged 12.0 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting with 8.7 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, 1.0 steals and 1.3 assists per game as Mercy went 3-0 on the week with all three wins coming by 20-plus points. The senior opened the week with 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting with 15 rebounds, two blocks, one steal and two assists in the win over Bloomfield on Monday. The forward then had 10 points, two rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist in the win over Dominican on Thursday. Barrera ended the week with eight points, nine rebounds and one assist in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday.
Miller averaged 13.0 points per game on 57.1 percent shooting with 1.7 steals per game as Mercy went 3-0 on the week with all three wins coming by 20-plus points. The sophomore opened the week with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting with three rebounds and one steal in the win over Bloomfield on Monday. The guard then had a career-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting with two assists and three steals in the win over Dominican on Thursday. Miller ended the week with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting with one steal in the win at Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday.
Lesko is named Player of the Week for the second time this season and has now earned 10 awards on the year. The award is the second for Barrera and first for Miller. Mercy has now earned 16 awards on the year.
Head Coach Scott Lagas and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, January 14th when they play at UDC at 5:30 p.m.
