Barrera Named Albert J. Carino Girls Basketball Club of South Jersey College Player of the Year

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Mercy University Women's Basketball senior Angelina Barrera (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) has been named one of the 2026 Albert J. Carino Girls Basketball Club of South Jersey College Players of the Year.

Barrera is one of three to receive the honor this year and is the lone representative from Division II. The senior ends her Mercy career with 1,114 points, 682 rebounds, 108 blocks, 158 assists and 102 steals in 105 career games. The Second Team All-ECC selection this year ends her career ranked 18th in program history in points, third in blocks and 11th in rebounds. The forward was named MBWA First Team All-Met, First Team All-ECC and was named to the ECC Championship All-Tournament Team last season. As a sophomore, Barrera was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year. The senior helped lead Mercy to two NCAA Tournament appearances and to ECC Championship Final appearances. This season, the senior was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and averaged 11.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game on 48.4 percent shooting. Barrera recorded her 1,000th career point against STAC on January 31st and her 100th career block against Molloy on January 24th.
