RINDGE, N.H. – Powered by a team-high two RBI on the day from junior Allison Murphy (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) and sophomore Mikaela Mammola (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) and a team-high four hits from junior Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View), the No. 8 seeded Mercy University Softball Team earned a 9-4 win over No. 5 seeded Assumption University before falling 9-0 to the Greyhounds in the East Region Final of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship on Sunday afternoon at Melissa Bisaccia Field.
The Mavericks (28-20) end their 2026 season in the East Region Final for the first time in program history and finish with their most wins in a season since 2018. The Greyhounds (33-26) advance to next week's Super Regionals and will face St. Thomas Aquinas.
Game 1: Mercy 9, Assumption 4
Mercy scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Murphy walked and later scored on a junior Julianna Coluccio (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) double.
Assumption tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning. The Mavericks responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead. Junior Onnika DeBruhl (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) walked, and Mammola singled before Murphy doubled home DeBruhl and Mammola to make it 3-1.
The Mavericks tacked on three more runs in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead. Freshman Madelyn Perrone (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) doubled and scored on a sophomore Kayla Zimmerman (Brookfield, Conn./American International College) single to make it 4-1. Junior Dylan Reyer (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) walked and DeBruhl doubled home Zimmerman to give Mercy a 5-1 lead. Mammola later reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Reyer to make it 6-1.
The Greyhounds scored two runs in the fourth inning and a run in the fifth inning to make it 6-4. Mercy answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 9-4 lead. Reyer led off the inning with a single and later scored on a Mammola single to make it 7-4. Freshman Emma Jackson (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) singled home Mammola to put Mercy up 8-4. Miller later singled home Jackson to make it 9-4.
Sophomore Lauren McSweeney (Islip, N.Y./Islip) held Assumption scoreless for the remainder of the game, giving Mercy a 9-4 win, forcing a winner-take-all game two.
Mercy was led by Murphy who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Mammola went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Miller went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Coluccio went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Jackson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Zimmerman went 1-for-4 with an RBI and DeBruhl went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Perrone went 1-for-4 with a run and Reyer went 1-for-2 with two runs. McSweeney allowed three earned runs in a complete game to earn her 12th win of the season.
Assumption was led by Jaiden Tonucci who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kaelin Waldron allowed five runs in 2.1 innings to take the loss.
Mercy had 14 hits and two errors and Assumption had six hits and three errors.
Game 2: Assumption 9, Mercy 0
The game remained scoreless until the second inning when Bianca Vincequere recorded an RBI single to give Assumption a 1-0 lead.
The Greyhounds scored two runs in the third inning on RBI singles from Maddy Bland and Bella Mara, taking a 3-0 lead.
Assumption scored six runs on five hits in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 lead.
Mercy was unable to score in the fifth inning, giving the Greyhounds the 9-0 win.
Mercy was led by Miller who went 2-for-3. Senior Mackayla Secoda (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) made the start and went the first 2.1 innings with three runs allowed to take the loss.
Assumption was led by Bland who went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Waldron pitched a complete game shutout to earn the win.
Mercy had two hits and two errors and Assumption had nine hits and one error.
