Four Mavericks Record an RBI as Softball Faces STAC and D'Youville in ECC Championship

SPARKILL, N.Y. – Despite four Mavericks recording an RBI, the No. 2 seeded Mercy University Softball Team dropped a 13-0 decision to No. 1 seeded St. Thomas Aquinas College and a 7-4 decision to No. 3 seeded D'Youville University on Day Two of the ECC Softball Championship on Friday afternoon at Spartan Field.

The Mavericks (25-18) will now wait to see if they are selected into the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is Monday, May 11th at 10 a.m. and can be seen at NCAA.com. The Spartans (32-12) advance to Sunday's final and will face the Saints (22-19) in a rematch of last year's championship.

Game 1: STAC 13, Mercy 0 (5 Innings)

STAC scored 10 runs in the first inning and a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 13-0 lead.

The Spartans held Mercy scoreless to earn the 13-0 win via the run-rule.

Mercy was led by senior Mackayla Secoda (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) allowed five runs in the first inning to take the loss.

STAC was led by Trinadey Santiago who went 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBI. Lauren Falk pitched a no-hitter with four strikeouts to earn the win.

Mercy had no hits and one error and STAC had 13 hits and one error.

Game 2: D'Youville 7, Mercy 4

Mercy took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Junior Allison Murphy (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) reached on a fielder's choice and junior Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) singled. Freshman Madelyn Perrone (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) then singled home Murphy to make it 1-0. Junior Dylan Reyer (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) then singled and Miller scored after an error by the pitcher, giving Mercy a 2-0 lead.

The Mavericks scored two runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Miller walked and later scored on a freshman Makayla Rady (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0. Junior Onnika DeBruhl (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) later reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Perrone to score, to make it 4-0.

D'Youville scored two runs in the fourth, a run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to earn the 7-4 win.

Mercy was led by DeBruhl and Perrone who both went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Miller went 1-for-3 with two runs and Reyer went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Lauren McSweeney (Islip, N.Y./Islip) allowed six earned runs in 6.1 innings to take the loss.

D'Youville was led by Mikayla Hussar who went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Kendal Lehnen pitched 4.2 shutout innings to earn the win.

Mercy had four hits and three errors and D'Youville had seven hits and two errors.
