Men's Soccer Picked Third in ECC Preseason Poll

COLONIA, N.J. – The Mercy University Men's Soccer Team has been picked to finish third in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll. The top six teams in the standings at the end of the season qualify for the ECC Championship.

Queens received eight first-place votes to take the top spot in the poll with 80 points. Roberts Wesleyan earned one first-place vote with 71 points to be ranked second in the poll. Queens' Bradyn Brown and Tommy Wagner were named Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.

The Mavericks went 7-6-5 last season, qualifying for the ECC Championship for the seventh time in eight seasons. The Mavericks' five ECC Championships are the most among current members, with the most recent titles coming in 2022 and 2019. Since winning their last title and dating back to the 2023 season, the Mavericks have compiled a 13-1-10 ECC regular season tally. Mercy posted a 3-1-4 mark in ECC play last season. Head Coach Pedro Velazquez and the Mavericks return two All-Conference selections from a year ago. Senior Mario de Roque Zazón was named Second Team All-Conference last season after playing in 15 games with three goals, five assists and 11 points. Senior Pau Ramon returns after receiving Third Team All-Conference recognition last season. Ramon started all 17 games and had three goals, one assist and seven points.

Velazquez and the Mavericks open their 2026 season on Thursday, August 27 when they host East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m.
