Sigurdardottir Makes Season-High Six Saves as No. 9 Women's Soccer Plays at RV Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. – Despite a season-high six saves from junior Heiddis Sigurdardottir (Garðabær, Iceland/University of Texas Rio Grande Valley), the No. 9 Mercy University Women's Soccer Team dropped a 2-0 decision at RV Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon at Sodexo Field.

The Mavericks (2-1-1) suffer their first loss of the season and fall to the defending national runner-up Ravens (2-2) for the fourth straight time.

Franklin Pierce scored just 50 seconds into the game on a McKenna Maguire goal, assisted by Camille Berenguer, to take a 1-0 lead.

Sigurdardottir made four saves to keep the score 1-0 before freshman Connor Leahy (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) recorded the Mavericks' first shot on goal in the 41st minute. The Ravens headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Franklin Pierce made it 2-0 just 33 seconds into the second half on another Maguire goal from Berenguer. Sigurdardottir made two more saves in the half and junior Alyssa Santiago (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) recorded Mercy's other shot on goal in the 52nd minute. However, the Ravens held on for a 2-0 win.

Mercy was led by Sigurdardottir who made a season-high six saves and by Leahy and Santiago who each had a shot on goal.

Franklin Pierce was led by Maguire who scored two goals and by Berenguer who had two assists. Jess LaCroix made two saves to earn the win.

Franklin Pierce held an 11-4 edge in shots, an 8-2 edge in shots on goal and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, September 9th when they play at Dominican at 3:30 p.m.
