DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Powered by a match-high 29 assists and nine digs from senior Adriana Rivera Rodriguez (Humacao, Puerto Rico/American International College) and a match-high seven blocks from senior Mia Illes-Hair (Lake Worth, Fla./Palm Beach Central), the Mercy University Women's Volleyball Team earned a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-14) win over Post University on Tuesday night at the Judge Athletic Center.
The Mavericks (6-0) start 6-0 for the first time since 2001 and have won 20 straight home matches dating back to 2024. Mercy defeats the Eagles (1-8) for the first time since 2019.
The opening set was tied at 4-4 before Mercy scored six straight points to take a 10-4 lead after a junior Grace Dilena (New York, N.Y./Liberty University Online Academy) kill. Post later cut the Mavericks lead to two, 12-10, before Mercy recorded the next six points to take an 18-10 lead after a Dilena kill. The Eagles later made it 22-15 before the Mavericks scored the final three points of the set, capped off by a junior Aleksandra Lucic (Belgrade, Serbia/Florida SouthWestern State College/AIC) ace to take the first set, 25-15.
Mercy built a 10-1 lead in set two after a junior Stasa Stamenkovic (Bor, Serbia/Barton CC) kill. The Mavericks increased the lead to 20-6 after a Dilena kill and a Rivera Rodriguez block ended the set, giving Mercy the 25-10 set-two win.
The Mavericks scored the first three points of the third set and later held a 9-5 lead after a Rivera Rodriguez kill. Post later cut Mercy's lead to one, 9-8, before the Mavericks rallied with a 6-1 run to take a 15-9 lead after an Illes-Hair and Lucic block. Mercy increased the lead to 20-12 after a Lucic ace before back-to-back Post points made it 20-14. The Mavericks ended the match, scoring the final five points of the set to earn the 25-14 set-three win and the sweep.
Mercy was led by Rivera Rodriguez who had a match-high 29 assists with nine digs, six kills, four aces and four blocks. Illes-Hair added a match-high seven blocks to go along with seven kills. Dilena and Stamenkovic both had a match-high nine kills and Lucic added eight kills, four aces and nine digs. Senior Janneliz Rodriguez Fuentes (Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico/Academia Cristo Rey) had six kills, and three blocks and sophomore Kamila Colon (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Colegio Catolico Notre Dame) recorded eight digs and six assists. Sophomore Isabella Brown (New York, N.Y./Great Neck North) contributed one dig and one ace.
Post was led by Lilly Chavez who had a team-high seven kills.
Mercy hit a season-high .513 with 45 kills, 33 digs, 10 aces and 11 blocks. Post hit .015 with 17 kills, 22 digs, five aces and two blocks.
Head Coach Ana Todorovic and the Mavericks resume action on Friday, September 11th when they host Georgian Court at 6 p.m.
