MacSpadyen enters his fourth season as head coach in 2026.

Mercy won their sixth straight ECC Regular Season Championship under MacSpadyen's leadership in 2025. The Mavericks went 10-4 overall and 6-0 in ECC play, ending the season ranked No. 16 nationally in the USILA Poll and No. 13 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll. Under MacSpadyen, Owen Stephenson, Jimmy Osorio and Ryan Smith were tabbed USILA All-Americans. Osorio was named ECC Offensive Player of the Year, Stephenson was named Defensive Player of the Year and Cole Hunsberger was named Co-Rookie of the Year.  

MacSpadyen led the Mavericks to their fifth straight ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championships in his second season as head coach in 2024. The ECC Coach of the Year led Mercy to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season and the Mavericks ended the season ranked No. 6 nationally with a record of 14-2. MacSpadyen oversaw the development of seven USILA All-Americans, highlighted by Jason Kuehner who was named First Team All-American and tabbed the USILA Division II Co Face-Off Player of the Year. MacSpadyen also oversaw a Mavericks squad that was crowned NCAA Statistical Champion for Shot Percentage (.396). MacSpadyen helped develop 10 All-ECC selections, highlighted by Justin Gerdvil who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year and Cameron Dorfman who was tabbed ECC Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year. The Mavericks also excelled in the classroom under MacSpadyen's leadership as the team earned the ECC Academic Team of Excellence Award for having the highest team GPA out of all ECC men's lacrosse teams. Tyler Pjatak was also named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Third Team Academic All-American, ECC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the ECC's Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year. 

MacSpadyen had a successful rookie campaign as a head coach in 2023, leading the Mavericks to a 14-4 record and their fourth straight ECC Championship. The ECC Coach of the Year led Mercy to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season and guided the Mavericks to a national ranking all season. Mercy ended the season ranked No. 10 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll and No. 11 in the Inside Lacrosse poll. MacSpadyen oversaw the development of eight USILA All-Americans, highlighted by Brady Kearnan who was named First Team All-American and was tabbed the USILA North Region Offensive Player of the Year. Kearnan was crowned the NCAA Statistical Champion for points per game and TJ Heyder earned the honor for shot percentage. MacSpadyen also helped develop 11 All-ECC selections, highlighted by Kearnan who was named ECC Offensive Player of the Year, Justin Gerdvil who was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year and Tommy Umano who was tabbed ECC Goalkeeper of the Year. MacSpadyen's leadership not only translated on the field but off the field as well as Jack Kipnes became just the second College Sports Communicators Academic All-American in program history. 

“Playing four years at Mercy and coaching as a graduate assistant for two seasons I met and learned a lot from my teammates and coaching staff. I am honored to have the opportunity now to give back to a program who has given me so much. I want to thank Jordan Levine and Joe Corace for their dedication to building this program and getting it to where it is today. I also want to thank Matt Kilcullen for giving me the opportunity to keep building this program in the right direction. Lastly, I would like to thank my players and my teammates for believing in me throughout the hiring process,” stated MacSpadyen.

“We are thrilled to have Ryan as our next head men’s lacrosse coach,” said Athletic Director Matt Kilcullen Jr. “As a former student-athlete who earned various academic honors while at Mercy and also garnered USILA Academic All-American honors as a junior, Ryan, who also was an assistant coach for 2 years, embodies what our men’s lacrosse program is all about.”

MacSpadyen played four years for the Mavericks from 2016-19 and was a member of the team’s first-ever ECC Championship and first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He currently ranks fourth in program history in goals (133), second in assists (106) and third in points (239). MacSpadyen was twice named an All-American by the USILA and was named ECC Offensive Player of the Year in 2019. The midfielder was named First Team All-ECC three times and was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2016. During his senior season, MacSpadyen was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week three times and led the team in points (82) and assists (39) as Mercy won their first ECC Championship and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time. The Mavericks also won a school-record 18 games during the 2019 season. He also helped lead Mercy to the ECC Tournament all four years as a student-athlete.

At the conclusion of his playing career with the Mavericks, MacSpadyen served as an assistant coach under Jordan Levine for two seasons. Mercy went 5-1 during the COVID shortened season in 2020 and went 9-1 in 2021 with the Mavericks qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history.

MacSpadyen also brings an impressive professional playing career background to the Mavericks. The native of Ontario, Canada was drafted by the Georgia Swarm of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) with the 13th pick in the first round in 2019. He became the first player in program history to be drafted. He has played the last two seasons for the Swarm and played in 18 games last season with four goals, three assists, seven caused turnovers and 38 loose balls.

MacSpadyen graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Corporate & Homeland Security Management from Mercy College in 2019 and with a master’s degree in Business Administration & Finance from Mercy in 2021. He earned International Honor Society in Business, Delta Mu Delta honors. MacSpadyen was also named to Beta Upsilon Chapter, Mercy College, which is the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
