Charles Marquardt

Marquardt was named Head Men's Basketball Coach on May 19, 2025 and enters his first season as head coach in 2025-26. 

Marquardt joins the Mavericks after serving as head coach at Molloy University for the past 31 years. Marquardt is the all-time winningest coach in Molloy history with 340 career wins, reaching the playoffs in 27 of his 31 years. He led the Lions to the program’s first-ever East Coast Conference Championship in 2018-19 and their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, ending the season 21-10.

Throughout his tenure at Molloy, Marquardt coached nine student-athletes that were inducted into the Molloy Athletic Hall of Fame. He had 21 players named to All-Conference teams, totaling 39 selections, while also having a number of players designated as Rookie/Player of the Year. Ten student-athletes were named All-Metropolitan, totaling 14 selections, including two Player of the Year nods in 2013-14 and 2022-23. Marquardt also coached six NABC All-East selections.

Under Marquardt’s leadership, several players went on to play professionally overseas, and three players reached the G-League, the developmental league of the NBA, in John Petrucelli (2010-2014), Charlie Marquardt (2014-17), and Jaylen Morris (2014-17) made it to the NBA G-League. Most recently, Morris became Molloy’s first student-athlete to be signed by an NBA team, playing six games with the Atlanta Hawks before signing a multi-year contract in 2018.

The three-time coach of the Empire State Games played four years of varsity basketball at NAIA member St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine. During his career, he helped the Monks to a four-year record of 93-24, while maintaining an NAIA national ranking all four years. Marquardt walked away from St. Joseph’s as the all-time leader in steals, and as the single-game record-holder for assists. He was voted the defensive player of the year three times, and was named to the “Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities” for his work in the classroom.

Marquardt played high school basketball at Xavier High School in New York. He helped the squad to CHSAA City Quarterfinals during the 1981-82 season, and is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, after playing on the 1,000th-win team.

Marquardt has been awarded a number of prestigious honors during his coaching career, being named Coach of the Year four times as well as receiving the Sam Shoenfeld Sportsmanship Award from the College Basketball Officials Association on two occasions.
