Dr. Charles A. Popkin

Dr. Charles A. Popkin, MD, is proud to be the head team physician for the Mercy College Mavericks since 2016.
 
Dr. Popkin is an orthopedic surgeon with Columbia Doctors and is an attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He specializes in sports-related injuries of the knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip for the pediatric, adolescent, and collegiate athlete. 
 
Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, Dr. Popkin later went on to attend Colgate University where he played football as a defensive back for the Division I Raiders.  He is a life-long hockey fan and, throughout his career, has cared for college hockey teams in both Canada and Minnesota.
 
Currently, Dr. Popkin is conducting research on hockey injuries to the knee, ACL injury prevention, ACL reconstruction techniques in the pediatric athlete, the influence of parents on sports performance, and advanced arthroscopic techniques of the elbow.  He has lectured extensively on overuse injuries in pediatric and adolescent athletes, ACL injuries, tibial spine fractures, patellar instability and cartilage lesions of the knee.
 
Dr. Popkin lives in Westchester with his wife and two children and is also team physician for a number of area high schools.
