Kirkland continued his strong freshman season during the month of January, averaging 10.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. The guard led the team in three-pointers made (13) and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. The freshman scored in double figures in four of six games and started the month with 11 points at Adelphi on January 1st. Kirkland then posted 14 points on 4-for-8 shooting from downtown against District of Columbia on January 11th. The one-time ECC Rookie of the Week during the month followed that up with 11 points and six rebounds in the Mavericks win at Queens on January 15th. Kirkland concluded the month with a month-high 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting from beyond the arc against Bridgeport on January 25th.
