Mercy College Selects Bob Greiner as Head Baseball Coach
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College Director of
Athletics Pat Kennedy announced the appointment of
Bob Greiner as Head Baseball Coach. Greiner
replaces Bill Sullivan who recently stepped down
after being promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Internal
Operations. He is the seventh head coach in program's 34 year
history.
"Bobby brings a tremendous baseball background
to Mercy College," Sullivan said. "I have long admired his
ability to get the most out of each player and manage games.
A master recruiter, I feel Bobby is a vital component in
moving the program forward."
"This is a challenge that I really look forward
to taking on," Greiner said. "There is a strong foundation here and
our best is yet to come. I am forever indebted to Bill Sullivan and
Mercy College for this tremendous opportunity, and I look
forward to competing in the ECC against some good old friends."
Greiner brings a successful track record with him that includes
a 345-240 career mark as head coach at Manhattanville for two years
and Concordia for 11 years. During his tenure with the Clippers his
teams made nine playoff appearances, captured three New York
Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) championships (1999, 2000,
2002) and earned four NCAA Division II Regional bids, advancing to
a pair of finals.
Greiner is known for his recruiting and player development
skills that have led to numerous All-Conference selections and
seven All-Americans, including 2003 Division II National Player of
the Year, Mike Aviles, now with the Kansas City Royals. He
has had four players drafted and gone on to play in the
professional ranks.
Greiner was voted by his peers as the 2002 NYCAC Coach of the
Year, guiding his team to a 44-12-1 mark, which was a New York
State record. He has also served two terms on the NCAA Northeast
Regional Advisory Committee.
