Men's Basketball Falls to CW Post 104-80
The Mercy College men's basketball team dropped the East
Coast Conference opener with C.W. Post tonight, 104-80. The
Mavericks continue to look for their first win of the season, with
their record now 0-4 including 0-1 in the ECC. The Pioneers
improve to 3-2, including 1-0 ECC.
Mercy started out the first half strong and held an early
lead. James
Mindingall (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) grabbed the
rebound off a missed jumper by Hasan
Powell (Bridgeport, Conn./Central), and scored a layup
and was fouled. Mindingall sunk the foul shot to give the
Mavericks the 13-7 lead. Mindingall would grab six rebounds
on the night. The teams exchanged baskets, with Mercy holding
on to the lead. Desentrie Allen (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe
Cathedral) hit a jumper to bring the score to 19-12
and give the Blue and White a seven point lead, and then the
Pioneers turned it on.
A pair of free throws by Jonathan Kohler and a three pointer by
Gil Montalvo put the Pioneers within two. Remington Mignott (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of
Telecommunications) hit a layup to make the score
21-17 with the Mavericks leading. C.W. Post then went on a
16-0 run. At the end of the run, the Pioneers were up 33-21.
C.W. continued to widen the gap, and finished the half leading
59-40.
The Pioneers continued to roll, and the Mavericks were never
able to recover. C.W. Post would go on to take the game,
104-80.
Powell led all scorers with 23 points and added six
steals. Manny
Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) added 11 points
and led all players with nine rebounds.
The Mavericks return to action on Dec. 4, when they travel to
the University of Bridgeport.
