The Mercy College men's basketball team dropped the East Coast Conference opener with C.W. Post tonight, 104-80.  The Mavericks continue to look for their first win of the season, with their record now 0-4 including 0-1 in the ECC.  The Pioneers improve to 3-2, including 1-0 ECC.

Mercy started out the first half strong and held an early lead.  James Mindingall (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) grabbed the rebound off a missed jumper by Hasan Powell (Bridgeport, Conn./Central), and scored a layup and was fouled.  Mindingall sunk the foul shot to give the Mavericks the 13-7 lead.  Mindingall would grab six rebounds on the night.  The teams exchanged baskets, with Mercy holding on to the lead.  Desentrie Allen (Bridgeport, Conn./Kolbe Cathedral) hit a jumper to bring the score to 19-12 and give the Blue and White a seven point lead, and then the Pioneers turned it on.

A pair of free throws by Jonathan Kohler and a three pointer by Gil Montalvo put the Pioneers within two.  Remington Mignott (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Telecommunications) hit a layup to make the score 21-17 with the Mavericks leading.  C.W. Post then went on a 16-0 run. At the end of the run, the Pioneers were up 33-21.  C.W. continued to widen the gap, and finished the half leading 59-40.

The Pioneers continued to roll, and the Mavericks were never able to recover.  C.W. Post would go on to take the game, 104-80.

Powell led all scorers with 23 points and added six steals.  Manny Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) added 11 points and led all players with nine rebounds.

The Mavericks return to action on Dec. 4, when they travel to the University of Bridgeport.
