Volleyball Drops a Pair of Matches at Wilmington

The Mercy volleyball team dropped a pair of games today in New Castle, Del., falling to Post University and the host Wilmington University, by identical 3-0 scores.

Against Post, set scored were 25-20, 25-19, 25-18. For the match, Post hit the ball well, recording a .292 hitting percentage, including a .412 clip in the third set. Freshman Nicolette Gebhardt (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) had eight kills and seven digs to lead the way. Sophomore Kassy Phillips (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) added three kills, seven assists, and a pair of solo blocks.

 In the match with the hosts, set scores were 25-17, 25-11, and 27-25. Gebhardt had 13 kills and five digs. Senior Mirlusca Montes (Lima, Peru/Senor de la Misericordia) had a match-high 19 digs, as freshman Syntia Malicka (Southington, Conn./Southington) added 13 digs.

The Mavericks (3-7) travel to Old Westbury to face NYIT on September 30 at 7:00 p.m.
