The Mercy College men's basketball team lost a tough East Coast Conference matchup to St. Thomas Aquinas College, 83-76.  Senior Ed Wilson reached a career milestone, scoring his 1000th point in the first half.

STAC got the scoring started, when Ian Stark knocked down a three-pointer early in the game.  The Mavericks started shooting well, including Colin Senior (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) hitting three shots from behind the arc to give Mercy the 13-11 lead.  With 5:36 to go in the half, a layup by Wilson (Bronx, N.Y./Monsignor Scanlan) gave him his tenth point of the game, and brought his career total to 1,001 points. The Mavericks would control play for the rest of the half, leading by as many as ten.  Mercy held the 48-41 at the end of the first stanza.

Mercy came out strong in the second half.  A layup by James Mindingall (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) brought the score to 53-43, with the Mavericks holding the double-digit lead.  Ignited by a three pointer by Justin Brown, the Spartans would then go on 19-4 run to take the 62-57 lead.  Mercy would take the lead one more time, when Wilson hit a jumper to take the 63-62 lead.  STAC scored the next possession, and would lead the rest of the way, taking the game 83-76.

Senior led the Mavericks with 21 points, Wilson had 16 points and four steals, Hasan Powell (Bridgeport, Conn./Central) had 11 points and led all players with nine assists, and Mindingall added ten points.  STAC's Brown led all players with 26 points.

The Mavericks return to action on Sat., Feb. 19th against Molloy in Mercy's annual WBCA Pink Zone game, to bring awareness and raise funds for breast cancer research.

Prior to the 3:00 p.m. tip, the Mavericks will formally honor Wilson for his 1,000th point.
