BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Apr. 21, 2013) - On Sunday, the Mercy College baseball team battled the Bridgeport Purple Knights in a conference doubleheader. The Purple Knights record now stands at 15-17 and 9-7 in the East Coast Conference, while the Mavericks record now stands at 7-30-1, and 4-16 in the ECC.

Game 1: Bridgeport 12, Mercy 3

In Game 1, the Mavericks got a on the board first after a Chris Salvo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y. / Lakeland) single to left scored Ken Post (Closter, N.J. / St. Joseph's Regional), and the Mavericks led 1-0 after one and a half innings. But after a five-run fourth frame, the Purple Knights' offense proved to be too much for the Mavericks.

Game 2: Mercy 11, Bridgeport 4

In Game 2, the Mavericks finally got their bats going, but not after trailing 4-0, as they came to bat in the top of the second. The Mavericks would have one of their best individual innings of the season, as they scored six scored runs on six hits to erase the 4-0 deficit. The Mavericks would duplicate that performance in the very next inning, as they scored four runs on five hits to push the Mercy lead to 11-4 after three and a half innings. These two frames would be enough to down Bridgeport.

For the game, Steve Longo (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point) led the charge, as he went 2-4 with three runs batted in, and Nicholas Fiore (Wantagh, N.Y. / MacArthur) went 3-4 with one run batted in. Anthony McQuade went 1-3 with two runs batted in, while Andrew Bock (Malverne, N.Y. / Valley Stream North) went 2-4 as well.

Ray Thaisz (Staten Island, N.Y. / St. Joseph By The Sea) pitched a complete game, while giving up four earned runs on seven hits.

Coach Greiner and the Mavericks return to action on Tuesday April 23rd, as they travel to Nyack, N.Y. to take on the Warriors of Nyack College at 3:00 pm.
