BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2017) – Despite a team-high three shots on goal from junior Lucca Lacerda (Passos, Brazil/Monroe College), the Mercy College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to ECC foe No. 6 LIU Post on Wednesday afternoon at Pioneer Soccer Field.
The Mavericks (10-4, 5-2 ECC) see their seven-game winning streak come to an end, while the Pioneers (11-0-2, 5-0-1 ECC) remain unbeaten on the year.

Mercy faced a tough challenge in playing at the No. 6 team in the nation, but Lacerda recorded the first shot on goal of the gamer in the 8th minute of action. Lacerda and Verjoni forced Hessner Hansen to make two more saves before the Pioneers started the scoring in the 24th minute. Pearse scored off a cross from Lukas Ostermann and shot the ball to the top right corner to put LIU Post ahead 1-0.
It remained 1-0 until the 42nd minute when Lozano scored off a penalty kick to put the hosts up 2-0. It remained 2-0 at halftime with Mercy holding a 13-10 edge in shots.
The second half saw both goalkeepers make a save in the frame before LIU Post increased their lead to 3-0 in the 80th minute. Kristjansson dribbled past a defender and shot from the top of the box into the back of the net to increase the Pioneers lead.
LIU Post would hold the Mavericks without a shot on goal the rest of the way in securing the shutout victory.
