VALHALLA, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2017) – Despite a near double-double from freshman Adriana Lopez-Soto (Gurabo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame HS), the Mercy College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (15-25, 22-25, 16-25) setback to ECC foe Daemen College on Sunday afternoon at Westchester Community College.

Daemen built a 15-9 lead in the second set and looked to be on the verge of an easy set two win. The Mavericks had other ideas as they responded with a 10-4 run to tie the set up at 19-19. Mercy could not get over the hump and the Wildcats finished off the set on a 6-3 spurt to take a 2-0 lead.
Mercy jumped out to a 6-2 lead in set three, but the Wildcats followed with a 15-6 run to build a 17-12 lead. The Mavericks cut the lead to four, 18-14, after a Leah Petty (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) kill, but that was as close as they could get as Daemen ended the set on a 7-2 run to secure the match in three sets.
Mercy hit .037 with 20 kills and 34 digs, while Daemen hit .257 with 47 kills and 43 digs.
