VALHALLA, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2017) – Despite a double-double from senior Monet Keane-Dawes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood), the Mercy College women's basketball team fell, 75-60, to Georgian Court University on Saturday afternoon at Westchester Community College.

The Mavericks fall to 2-2 and are now .500 on the season, while the Lions pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-2.

The Lions did not hold back in the second quarter, as they were able to record 18 points compared to the Mavericks eight. Leading Georgian Court was Carna Prokick, who recorded five points and two rebounds in the quarter. Bady set up the Mavericks offense, dishing out three assists in the quarter to allow the Mavericks to enter halftime only trailing by one point, with a score of 27-26.

The start of the third quarter saw a back and forth battle between the two teams, with the score being tied twice in the first three minutes of action. Twelve unanswered points from the Lions would put the Mavericks in a hard spot, as they found themselves down 43-34 with 3:46 left to play in the quarter.  Despite the Mavericks going 7-of-8 from the charity stripe for the remainder of the period, the Lions maintained the lead, closing out the quarter with a 51-43 lead.

Despite putting 17 points up on the board in the final quarter, the Mavericks were unable to overcome the Lions and eventually fell 75-60.

The Mavericks shot 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the floor, 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from beyond the arc and 71.9 percent (23-32) from the foul line. Georgian Court shot 47.5 percent (29-of-61) from the floor, 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from behind the arc, and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from the charity stripe.
