All Six Seniors Score on Senior Day as No. 7 Women's Soccer Earns 11-1 Win Over Lincoln

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2018) – Powered by all six seniors scoring on Senior Day, the No. 7 Mercy College women's soccer team concluded their regular season with an 11-1 win over ECC foe Lincoln University on Friday afternoon.

Seniors Destiny Guerra (Simi Valley, Calif./Highline CC), RaeAnn Ioannou (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge), Rebecca Conway (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst), Kendall Wright (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo), Corinna Ferrante (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) and Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) played their final regular season game at Mercy Field. The six seniors will be recognized at halftime of tomorrow's men's soccer game at Mercy Field which starts at 11 a.m.

The Mavericks (12-2-1, 7-1-1 ECC) have secured a top-two seed in next week's ECC Tournament and will host a Semifinal matchup on Tuesday, October 30th at 1 p.m. Mercy can finish as the No. 1 seed if Bridgeport loses or ties against Roberts Wesleyan tomorrow. The Lions (0-16, 0-9 ECC) conclude their season without a win. The 11 goals scored by the Mavericks are a new school record.

Ferrante had three goals and an assist and Noble recorded three goals. Noble surpasses Heidi Serna for most goals in program history. Ioannou posted a goal and two assists and Guerra and Conway both scored and had an assist. Wright scored and sophomore Kaitlyn Denning (Peoria, Ariz./Mountain Ridge) also scored. Junior Trista Seara (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) dished out two assists and freshman Anicia Reyes (San Diego, Calif./Santana) had an assist. Sophomore Melissa Torres (La Mirada, Calif./La Mirada) played the first half in goal and made one save to earn the win. Freshman Veronica Scruggs (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) played the second half and made two saves.

Lincoln was led by Diana Martinez who scored. Megan Dakwa played the first 29:47 in goal and made six saves to take the loss.

Dakwa made two saves in the first four minutes of action, but Ferrante would give the Mavericks the lead with her first of the day in the 5th minute off an assist from Ioannou. The senior picked up her second goal of the game in the 13th minute when she received a thru ball from Seara and found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Ioannou tacked on a third goal for the Mavericks in the 15th minute and 30 seconds later Noble scored her first of the game following a cross from Seara, which made it 4-0. Noble increased the Mercy lead to 5-0 in the 19th minute following a pass from Ioannou and Wright would make it 6-0 in the 21st minute.

Noble tallied her final goal of the game in the 23rd minute following a rebound of a Conway shot to put the Mavericks lead to 7-0. Guerra, Conway and Denning concluded the scoring in the half to give Mercy a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Ferrante recorded the Mavericks final goal in the 56th minute to make it 11-0 and the Lions would get on the board in the 87th minute, but Mercy would come away with the win.

Mercy held a 26-9 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jim O'Brien and the Mavericks will now host an ECC Tournament Semifinal matchup on Tuesday, October 30th at 1 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
