Four Mavericks Record Multiple Goals as No. 16/18 Men's Lacrosse Earns 14-4 Win Over Post

WATERBURY, Conn. (Feb. 24, 2018) – Led by four different Mavericks recording multiple goals, the No. 16/18 Mercy College men's lacrosse team earned a 14-4 victory over Post University on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks (2-1) win their second straight game, while the Eagles (0-2) remain winless on the year.

Freshman Dominic Scorcia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey) led Mercy with a game-high four goals, while sophomore Tommy McPartland (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) added three goals and two assists. Junior Bobby Chillianis (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) contributed two goals and three assists and senior Chris Martinez (Uniondale, N.Y./Nassau CC) ended up with three goals and one assist. Junior Ryan MacSpadyen (Toronto, Ontario/Seneca College) netted a goal and two assists and junior Anthony DeCeglia (Northport, N.Y./Nassau CC) finished with a goal and a game-high five caused turnovers. Senior Kyle McDonough (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) and junior Eric Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y./Nassau CC) dished out assists and sophomore Antonio Rey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) went 18-of-19 on faceoffs and had a game-high nine ground balls. Junior Ryan Gibbons (Seaford, N.Y./Dowling College) played the first 36:01 minutes of action with four saves to earn the win.

Dominick Parente led Post with two goals and Jake Bova played the first half in goal with five saves to take the loss.

Mercy looked to win their second straight game and would get on the board less than two minutes in as Martinez tallied his first goal of the season to put the Mavericks up 1-0. It remained 1-0 for nearly the entire first quarter, but McPartland netted his first goal of the game with 39 seconds left in the frame to give Mercy a 2-0 lead after one quarter.

The Mavericks would outscore the Eagles 5-0 in the second quarter to take a 7-0 lead at halftime. Scorcia opened the scoring in the quarter and would tack on two more goals before the end of the half. Also scoring in the frame were Martinez and McPartland as Mercy headed into halftime with a comfortable lead.

Martinez made it 8-0 at the 8:26 mark of the third quarter before Mark Colella finally got Post on the board with 6:30 remaining in the quarter. The two teams would trade goals to finish out the quarter, giving Mercy a 9-2 lead after three quarters.

The Eagles started the fourth quarter with two straight goals to bring the contest to 9-4, but the Mavericks would put the game away with five unanswered goals. DeCeglia started the run and Mercy would also receive goals from Chillianis, McPartland, MacSpadyen and Scorcia to put the game away.

Mercy held a 38-17 edge in shots, a 39-18 advantage in ground balls and went 20-of-21 on faceoffs.

Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks look to make it three wins in a row when they play at Saint Rose on Tuesday, February 27th at 3 p.m.
