Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Jehle Records 100th Career Assist as No. 9/11 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Jefferson, 21-6

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 17, 2018) – Led by the 100th career assist and two goals from senior Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead), the No. 9/11 Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned an impressive 21-6 victory over Jefferson University on Saturday night at Pace Stadium.

The Mavericks (6-1) bounce back from their first loss of the season and tie the school record for goals in a game, while the Rams (0-4) remain winless on the year.

Jehle finished the night with two goals and two assists and senior Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) had a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists. Junior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) added five goals, an assist, five ground balls and 19 draw controls. Sophomore Brittani Sergio (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), senior Rachel Gumowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and freshman Kellie Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) all scored twice and juniors Talia Stagnitta (Patchogue, N.Y/Patchogue-Medford), Erin Dingman (Watertown, N.Y./Onondaga CC) and freshman Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) all finished with a goal and an assist. Freshman Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) made six saves in the first half to earn the win. Senior Shianne Judson (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) played the second half in goal and made one save.

Jefferson was led by Camryn Sullivan who had a team-high three goals. Victoria Raimondi made nine saves to take the loss.

Mercy scored early and often in securing their sixth win of the season. Jehle started the scoring at the 27:55 mark following an assist from Davidson. Davidson followed less than 30 seconds later with her first goal of the game to put the Mavericks up 2-0. Back-to-back goals from Isnardi put Mercy up 4-0 less than five minutes in. Dingman then put away her first goal as a Maverick to give the Mavericks a 5-0 edge with 25:34 remaining in the first half.

Sullivan made it 5-1 at the 22:28 mark with her first goal. Gumowski answered with her first goal of the contest to give the Mavericks a 6-1 advantage. The Rams tallied two straight goals to get within, 6-3, with 12:57 left in the half. That would be the closest they could get as Mercy ended the half with seven straight goals to take a 13-3 lead at halftime. Jehle started the run with her second goal of the game and concluded the run with her 100th career assist on an Isnardi goal right before halftime.

The Mavericks continued to dominate in the second half scoring the half's first eight goals to build a 21-3 lead with 10:51 left in the game. Znaniecki got into the scoring column with her first collegiate goals and Stagnitta netted her first goal of the season. Isnardi, Davidson, Gumowski and Sergio also scored to finish off the scoring on the night. Jefferson scored three late goals but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Mercy held a 40-16 edge in shots, a 19-18 advantage in ground balls and a 25-4 advantage in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Thursday, March 22nd when they play at Assumption at 4 p.m.
