Davidson and Isnardi Score Game-High Four Goals as No. 7/10 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Queens, 19-1, in ECC Opener

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 28, 2018) – Powered by a game-high four goals from both senior Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and junior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville), the No. 7/10 Mercy College women's lacrosse team opened up East Coast Conference (ECC) play with a convincing 19-1 victory over Queens College on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (7-1, 1-0 ECC) have won two games in a row, while the Knights (4-3, 0-2 ECC) remain winless in ECC play.

Davidson also had a ground ball and is now five points shy of 200 for her career. Isnardi added a game-high nine draw controls and had three ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead) recorded a goal and five assists and sophomore Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) finished with three goals and an assist. Junior Erin Dingman (Watertown, N.Y./Onondaga CC) and freshman Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) both scored twice and freshman Casey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) added a goal, two assists and six draw controls. Junior Marissa Spinazzola (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) and sophomore Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) also scored and senior Rachel Gumowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) dished out an assist. Junior Talia Stagnitta (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) led the defense with a game-high seven ground balls and six caused turnovers and added two assists. Freshman Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) played the first half in goal and made one save to pick up the win. Senior Shianne Judson (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) played the second half in goal and made one save without allowing a goal.

Queens was led by Sarah Koehler who scored a goal, while Jessica Serpe made six saves to take the loss.

Mercy wasted little time in setting the tone with Isnardi scoring just 25 seconds into the game off a pass from Jehle that made it 1-0. Isnardi tallied two more goals in a row to put the Mavericks up 3-0 with 23:36 left in the half.

Davidson followed along with two goals of her own to give Mercy a 5-0 lead with 21:02 remaining in the half. Sanchez netted her first goal of the contest at the 20:26 mark to make it 6-0 before Davidson and Isnardi produced back-to-back goals to bring the score to 8-0 with just under 20 minutes left in the half.

Shimborske, Corace and Jehle added their names to the scoring column to put the Mavericks ahead 11-0 with 16:39 on the clock. Sanchez then scored her second goal of the game to make it 12-0 before Dingman and Mackie tallied their first goals of the day to give Mercy a commanding 14-0 advantage with 5:31 remaining in the half. Koehler ended the 14-0 run with a goal at the 2:55 mark to make it 14-1 at halftime.

The Mavericks continued to dominate in the second half with Mercy scoring all five goals in the frame to earn the 19-1 victory. Dingman, Sanchez, Corace, Davidson and Spinazzola all scored in the second half and Jehle added two assists to put the game away for the Mavericks.

Mercy held a 32-5 edge in shots, a 22-7 advantage in ground balls and a 19-3 edge in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, March 31st when they play at St. Thomas Aquinas at 11 a.m.
