Isnardi Records Game-High Six Goals and 14 Draw Controls as No. 10 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Roberts Wesleyan, 21-8

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Apr. 21, 2018) – Powered by a game-high six goals and 14 draw controls from junior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville), the No. 10 Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned a 21-8 victory over ECC foe Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks (12-2, 6-1 ECC) have won two games in a row, while the Redhawks (8-7, 3-4 ECC) fall below .500 in ECC play.

Isnardi also had a game-high five ground balls and added an assist. Freshman Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) posted a career-high five goals and senior Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y./Riverhead) recorded two goals and five assists. Sophomore Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) scored four times and senior Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) produced two goals. Sophomore Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) added a goal and an assist and sophomore Brittani Sergio (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) scored. Senior Hope Coticchio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and junior Talia Stagnitta (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) dished out assists and freshman Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) made six saves to earn the win.

Roberts Wesleyan was led by Jessica Giancursio and Emily Tomei who had a team-high three goals each. Victoria Greco made 14 saves to take the loss.

The hosts jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with 25:59 left in the first half. Sanchez and Isnardi quickly tied the game up with back-to-back goals to make it 2-2 with 24 minutes on the clock. Tomei gave the lead back to the Redhawks at 3-2 with 21 minutes remaining in the half.

Mercy got back into their groove and scored four straight goals to take the lead for good at 6-3. Corace scored twice and Isnardi and Sergio tallied goals to put the Mavericks in front. Giancursio made it 6-4, but the Mavericks answered right back with four more unanswered goals to build a 10-4 advantage. Davidson, Jehle, Isnardi and Sanchez all found the back of the net to give Mercy some cushion.

Tomei and Mackenzie Kidder made it 10-6 with two goals. However, the Mavericks ended the half with four straight goals to take a 14-6 lead at halftime. Davidson, Corace, Sanchez and Isnardi all scored to give Mercy a commanding lead.

Jehle started the second half with a goal to make it 15-6 less than a minute in. Giancursio tallied a goal at the 20:29 mark to bring the score to 15-7. Mercy followed with six straight goals to increase the lead to 21-7 and would hold on for the victory.

Mercy held a 45-16 edge in shots and a 26-3 edge in draw controls, while Roberts Wesleyan held a 19-17 edge in ground balls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, April 25th when they host Bridgeport for Senior Day at 4 p.m.
