PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 12, 2018) – Despite a season-high ten saves from senior Cheradyn Pettit (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer), the Mercy College field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 8 Pace University on Wednesday night.
The Mavericks (0-3) drop their third straight game, while the Setters (3-0) remain unbeaten on the year.
Senior Angela Robbins (Margate, N.J./Mainland Regional) recorded two shots and senior Kayly Bryan (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) had one shot. Junior Haley Jandris (Winchendon, Mass./Murdock) and senior Marissa Spinazzola (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) each added a defensive save. Pettit made ten saves in her first start of the year.
Pace was led by Halley Rose who had a game-high two goals, while Jenna Sanossian added a goal. Paige Predmore and Georgia DeMas contributed an assist. Grace Henderson played the full 70 minutes in the cage to pick up the win.
The Setters came out early firing on Pettit, but the senior was able to make four saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
Pettit made three more saves to begin the second half before Rose scored in the 50th minute, off a pass from DeMas, which made it 1-0.
Rose gave Pace a 2-0 lead in the 57th minute. Bryan recorded a shot that went wide just over a minute later, but the Mavericks would be unable to record a shot on goal. Pettit made two more saves before Sanossian scored the Setters final goal of the game in the 67th minute to bring the score to 3-0.
Pace held a 20-3 edge in shots and a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Head Coach Morgan Lizotte and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, September 15th when they host American International at 1 p.m.
