Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Seara and Noble Score to Lead No. 8 Women's Soccer to 2-0 Victory Over St. Thomas Aquinas

SPARKILL, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2018) – Powered by goals from junior Trista Seara (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and senior Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance), the No. 8 Mercy College women's soccer team opened up ECC play with a 2-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks (3-1, 1-0 ECC) have won two games in a row, while the Spartans (2-2, 1-1 ECC) lose for the first time in ECC play.

Seara and Noble both recorded their first goals of the year and senior Destiny Guerra (Simi Valley, Calif./Highline CC) added an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Melissa Torres (La Mirarda, Calif./La Mirada) made six saves to post a shutout.

St. Thomas Aquinas was led by Sarah Colotti who had a game-high three shots on goal. Courtney Dumain made six saves to take the loss.

Mercy wasted little time in getting on the board as Seara scored in the 4th minute of action to put the Mavericks up 1-0. The junior dribbled in the box and fired a shot in close to give Mercy an early lead.

Freshman Anicia Reyes (San Diego, Calif./Santana) came right back less than a minute later with a shot on goal that was stopped by Dumain to keep the score at 1-0. Torres would keep the Mavericks ahead with six saves in the opening half and Mercy headed into halftime up 1-0.

The second half saw junior Natalia Elizarraras (Whittier, Calif./Los Altos) and Noble record shots on goal before Noble found the back of the net in the 74th minute to make it 2-0. Guerra played a thru ball to Noble who fired the shot from the middle to give Mercy an insurance goal.

The Mavericks held on the rest of the way as the Mercy backline did not surrender a shot on goal in the second half.

Shots were tied at 10-10 and the Spartans held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jim O'Brien and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, September 19th when they host Le Moyne at 4 p.m.
