Game Preview: Women's Basketball Hosts Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan This Weekend

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2019) – The Mercy College women's basketball team resumes action on Friday, December 13th when they host Daemen College. The Mavericks will then conclude the week with a matchup against Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday, December 15th.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is currently on their first six-game winning streak since 1985 and will look to win seven games in a row for the first time since 1985 when the Mavericks won 11 games in a row. The Mavericks were picked to finish seventh in the ECC Preseason Poll with the top six teams qualifying for the ECC Tournament. Mercy is a perfect 4-0 at home so far this season and is led by junior Amber Brown who recorded her 1,000th career point last time out. The forward is averaging a team-high 17.4 points per game with 6.9 rebounds per game on 46.7 percent shooting. Freshman Katie Wall is a two-time ECC Rookie of the Week and was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll earlier this week. The guard is averaging 13.8 points per game with a team-high 4.0 assists per game. Senior Abigail Collier is third on the team with 10.7 points per game and is averaging a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore Taysha Bender was named to the ECC Honor Roll earlier this week and has scored double figures in each of her last two games.

Scouting the Wildcats

Daemen is currently on a two-game winning streak and is coming off a 70-47 win over Roberts Wesleyan in their ECC opener on Saturday. The Wildcats were tabbed third in the ECC Preseason Poll and are ranked No. 10 in the East Region according to the D2SIDA Media Poll. Leading the Wildcats is one-time ECC Player of the Week junior Tiara Filbert who is averaging a team-high 15.6 points per game on 51.5 percent shooting. Junior Caroline White is a one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and is second on the team with 15.0 points per game with a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game. Sophomore Katie Titus is also a one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and is third on the team with 13.4 points per game.

Scouting the Redhawks

Roberts Wesleyan will face St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday before visiting the Mavericks on Sunday. The Redhawks enter Friday's game coming off a loss to Daemen on Saturday. Prior to that loss, Roberts Wesleyan had won two straight games and the Redhawks enter the heat of ECC play having been picked to finish fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll. Senior Emily Miller leads Roberts Wesleyan with 15.0 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in eight starts. Senior Sara Nady is second on the team with 9.8 points per game and leads the team with 3.6 assists per game. Sophomore Taryn Wilson is third on the team with 7.6 points per game and is averaging a team-high 1.6 made threes per game.
