Game Preview: Women's Basketball Hosts RV/No. 21 St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 19, 2019) – The Mercy College women's basketball team resumes action on Saturday, December 21st when they host ECC foe RV/No. 21 St. Thomas Aquinas College.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy enters Saturday's game on a two-game losing streak following a six-game winning streak. The Mavericks are coming off a 59-47 loss to ECC foe Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday. Mercy is looking to defeat the Spartans for the first time since January 14, 2009 when they earned a 69-52 victory. The Mavericks are led by junior Amber Brown who is averaging a team-high 15.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game on 40.8 percent shooting. The junior is second in the ECC in scoring and is shooting 34.4 percent from beyond the arc. Freshman Katie Wall is a three-time ECC Rookie of the Week and is second on the team with 12.7 points per game. The guard is averaging a team-high 1.9 three-pointers made per game and is dishing out a team-high 3.8 assists per game. Senior Abigail Collier is third on the team with 9.5 points per game and is second with 6.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore Taysha Bender is averaging 6.8 points per game and is shooting a team-high 45.8 percent from downtown.

Scouting the Spartans

St. Thomas Aquinas is currently receiving votes in the WBCA Coaches' Poll and is No. 21 nationally in the D2SIDA Top 25 Media Poll. The Spartans are also currently ranked No. 3 in the D2SIDA East Region Media Poll and are coming off a 65-63 loss to Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday. St. Thomas Aquinas is led by junior Zaria Thomas who is averaging a team-high 14.3 points and 2.3 steals per game in a team-high 30.6 minutes per game. Senior Ruth Adams is second on the team with 14.1 points per game and is shooting a team-best 62.2 percent from the floor with a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game. Senior Melissa Sadler also averages double figures in points with 13.5 points per game and is shooting 51.7 percent from the field.
