Isnardi Scores Game-High Six Goals as No. 9/10 Women's Lacrosse Hosts Assumption

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 10, 2019) – Despite a game-high six goals from senior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville), the No. 9/10 Mercy College women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-12 decision to Assumption College on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (4-1) drop their first home game since April 22, 2017 against LIU Post, while the Greyhounds (4-0) remain unbeaten on the year.

Isnardi added a game-high 11 draw controls and had a game-high six ground balls with three caused turnovers. Sophomore Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) had three goals and junior Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) finished with two goals and an assist. Senior Talia Stagnitta (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) had a goal, two ground balls and two caused turnovers and senior Erin Dingman (Watertown, N.Y./Onondaga CC) added an assist. Sophomore Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) made ten saves to take the loss.

Assumption was led by Sarah Reilly who had a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists. Allie Collins made 11 saves to earn the win.

Isnardi got the Mavericks on the board first at the 26:05 mark of the first half. Corace made it 2-0 less than a minute later and Isnardi increased the lead to 3-0 with 24:55 left in the opening half. Assumption rallied with three straight goals to tie the game up at 3-3 with 19 minutes remaining in the first half.

Isnardi gave the lead back to Mercy with her third of the day, off an assist from Sanchez, which made it 4-3. A Kailyn Hart goal at the 13:01 mark tied the game up at 4-4. The Mavericks answered with four straight goals to take an 8-4 lead with 1:35 left before halftime. Isnardi tallied two more goals and Sanchez and Stagnitta got into the scoring column to give Mercy a four-goal lead. The Greyhounds closed the half with two straight goals with less than a minute left to head into halftime down, 8-6.

Isnardi recorded her final goal of the game at the 29:00 mark to give Mercy a 9-6 lead. Corace later made it 10-6 with 22:02 remaining. Back-to-back goals from Assumption made it 10-8 with 16:48 on the clock. Sanchez netted an unassisted goal to put the lead back to three, 11-8, with 14:42 left. Hart and Corace traded goals to give Mercy a 12-9 lead with 12 minutes left.

The Mavericks were held scoreless the final 12 minutes of the game and the Greyhounds scored the game's final four goals to earn a 13-12 win. Meghan Cushing scored the game-winning goal on a free position shot with 4:27 remaining.

Assumption held a 31-28 edge in shots and a 20-19 advantage in ground balls. Assumption held a 14-12 edge in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, March 16th when they host Bentley at 2 p.m.
