Isnardi Records Game-High Six Goals and 15 Draw Controls as No. 14/18 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Millersville, 13-11

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Apr. 11, 2019) – Powered by a game-high six goals and a season-high 15 draw controls from senior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville), the No. 14/18 Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned a 13-11 victory over Millersville University on Thursday afternoon.

The Mavericks (9-4) snap a two-game losing streak with the win, while the Marauders (7-5) have dropped two games in a row.

Isnardi added a game-high-tying four ground balls and recorded her 600th career draw control. Junior Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) posted four goals, an assist and two ground balls. Sophomore Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) recorded two goals and an assist and sophomore Casey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) added a goal and an assist. Junior Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) had two assists and senior Erin Dingman (Watertown, N.Y./Onondaga CC) had an assist and three ground balls. Sophomore Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) made six saves to pick up the win.

Millersville was led by Genevieve Speight who had a team-high four points on three goals and an assist. Shannon Davis made ten saves to take the loss.

The Marauders opened the scoring at the 28:30 mark on a Gillian Zimmerman goal. Mercy quickly answered with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead with 23:48 remaining in the half. Sanchez scored the first Maverick goal at the 28:02 mark and Isnardi and Corace finished off the run with their first goals of the day.

Millersville did not go away and tied the game up at 3-3 with 14:58 on the clock following two straight goals. Isnardi and Zimmerman traded goals to bring the score to 4-4 with 13:37 left in the first half. The Mavericks exploded for three consecutive goals to build a 7-4 lead at the 6:49 mark after two goals from Isnardi and another from Corace.

Erin Fagan scored for Millersville to make it 7-5 before Sanchez ended the half with two straight goals to put Mercy up 9-5 at halftime.

The Marauders came out in the second half and scored the first four goals to tie the game up at 9-9 with 19:04 remaining. Sanchez ended the run with her fourth of the day to put Mercy back in front, 10-9, at the 18:08 mark. Sara Burney tied the game up again for Millersville at 10-10, but Shimborske and Isnardi tallied back-to-back goals to give Mercy a 12-10 lead with 7:25 left in the game.

Speights tallied a goal at the 6:14 mark to get Millersville within one, 12-11. However, the Mavericks defense held the Marauders scoreless for the final 6:14 and Isnardi tacked on her final goal of the game with 1:47 remaining to give Mercy the win.

Mercy held a 31-25 edge in shots and ground balls were tied at 22-22. The Mavericks held a 16-10 edge in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Sunday, April 14th when they play at District of Columbia at 1 p.m.
