17 Different Mavericks Record a Point as No. 14 Women's Lacrosse Defeats District of Columbia, 20-3

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Apr. 14, 2019) – Powered by 17 different Mavericks recording a point, the No. 14 Mercy College women's lacrosse team earned a 20-3 victory over ECC foe University of the District of Columbia on Sunday afternoon.

The Mavericks (10-4, 4-1 ECC) have won two games in a row, while the Firebirds (0-12, 0-7 ECC) remain winless on the year.

Senior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) led the way with a game-high four goals and eight draw controls. Junior Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) had a game-high five assists and sophomore Kellie Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) and senior Marissa Spinazzola (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) each added two goals and an assist. Sophomore Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and freshman Taylor Bishop (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) both scored two goals and freshman Kayla Reese (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) had a goal and three assists. Sophomores Casey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Gianna Maffei (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville), junior Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) and freshmen Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and Katie Jelliffe (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) all had a goal and an assist. Senior Erin Dingman (Watertown, N.Y./Onondaga CC) and freshman Juliana Keenan (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) also scored and freshmen Micayla Brady (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) and Erin Chalich (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) dished out an assist. Junior Brittani Sergio (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) also added an assist and sophomore Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) made two saves in the first half with no goals allowed to pick up the win. Freshman Madeline Garvalosa (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) played the second half in goal.

UDC was led by Kianna Franklin who had a team-high two goals. Jada Foy made five saves to take the loss.

Isnardi got the Mavericks on the board first at the 27:57 mark and added her second of the day just over 30 seconds later to make it 2-0. Grzelaczyk and Corace also found the back of the net to give Mercy a 4-0 lead less than ten minutes into the contest.

Isnardi, Maffei, Spinazzola, Sanchez, Keenan and Corace scored the final six goals of the first half to give the Mavericks a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Dingman, Shimborske and Isnardi opened the second half with goals to give Mercy a 13-0 advantage with 25:50 remaining. Franklin got the Firebirds on the scoreboard at the 22:31 mark to make it 13-1. Znaniecki and Bishop netted their first goals of the day to increase the Mercy lead to 15-1 with 16 minutes left.

Madison Boykin tallied an unassisted goal before Jelliffe scored to bring the score to 16-2 at the 13:44 mark. Franklin netted her second of the day with 11:31 left to make it 16-3. Znaniecki, Spinazzola, Bishop and Reese scored the final four goals of the day for the Mavericks.

Mercy held a 32-5 edge in shots, a 17-5 edge in ground balls and a 17-8 advantage in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, April 16th when they play at Bridgeport at 6 p.m.
