Isnardi and Sanchez Record Game-High Four Points as No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Battles No. 7/12 West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Apr. 2, 2019) – Despite a game-high four points from senior Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) and junior Katherine Sanchez (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the No. 15 Mercy College lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 9-8 decision to No. 7/12 West Chester University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mavericks (8-3) see their four-game winning streak come to an end, while the Golden Rams (8-2) have won two games in a row.

Isnardi recorded her 300th career point and added two ground balls and two draw controls. Junior Mary Mackie (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) had a two goals and sophomore Briana Corace (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and freshman Juliana Keenan (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) both had an assist. Freshman Micayla Brady (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had a game-high six caused turnovers and six ground balls. Sophomore Emma Jacobsen (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) had eight saves to take the loss.

West Chester was led by Trisha Baud who had a game-high-tying three goals. Julianne Clemens made seven saves to earn the win.

Sanchez started the scoring at the 27:41 mark to give Mercy a 1-0 lead. West Chester tied the game up at 1-1 following a Lindsay Monigle free position shot with 20:43 remaining in the half. Sanchez, Mackie and Isnardi responded with goals to give Mercy a 4-1 lead at the 15:29 mark.

The Golden Rams followed with three straight goals to tie the game up at 4-4 with 5:38 remaining in the half. Isnardi sent the Mavericks into halftime with a 5-4 lead following a free position goal at the 1:16 mark.

Mercy carried over the momentum into the second half when Mackie and Sanchez tallied back-to-back goals to give the Mavericks a 7-4 advantage with 19 minutes remaining. West Chester came right back with four unanswered goals to take an 8-7 lead with 10:36 on the clock.

Isnardi tied the game up at 8-8 with 8:02 remaining on a free position goal. Tatum Altman put the Golden Rams ahead for good with a goal at the 7:35 mark. Mercy would be held off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest, giving West Chester the come-from-behind victory.

West Chester held a 23-17 edge in shots and Mercy held a 23-18 edge in ground balls. The Golden Rams held a 14-5 edge in draw controls.
