MacSpadyen Records Game-High Six Points as No. 3 Men's Lacrosse Defeats Dominican, 18-6

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 2, 2019) – Powered by a game-high six points from senior Ryan MacSpadyen (Toronto, Ontario/Seneca College), the No. 3 Mercy College men's lacrosse team earned an 18-6 win over Dominican College on Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (12-0) tie the program record for wins in a season, while the Chargers (1-7) have dropped six games in a row.

MacSpadyen had a game-high four goals and two assists. Freshman JoJo Janavey (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland) added three goals and senior Bobby Chillianis (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage), junior Tommy McPartland (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and freshman Joe Poggio (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) had two goals and an assist. Sophomore Dominic Scorcia (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey) and freshman Jack Gibbons (North Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) had a goal and an assist and juniors Ricky Marchelos (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Herricks) and Robert LoRicco (Guilford, Conn./University at Albany) and sophomore Sean Stockton (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) also scored. Senior Luke Baron (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) had an assist and junior Kyle Gardner (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) and senior Max Littleton (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) both had a game-high three caused turnovers. Junior Antonio Rey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) went 11-of-15 on faceoffs and had a game-high nine ground balls. Senior Ryan Gibbons (Seaford, N.Y./Dowling College) played the first 34:31 in goal and made three saves to earn the win.

Dominican was led by Lorcan Teahan and Luke Martini who had a team-high two goals. Patrick Gifford played 41:14 in goal with 11 saves to take the loss.

Mercy continued their strong play, jumping out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and a 10-0 lead with 11:20 before halftime. Janavey got the scoring started at the 14:08 mark of the first quarter before MacSpadyen recorded back-to-back goals to make it 3-0 with 11:25 left in the quarter. Chillianis, McPartland and Poggio closed out the quarter with goals to put Mercy up 6-0 after the first quarter.

Poggio, Chillianis, MacSpadyen, and Janavey scored four goals in a row to open the second quarter, giving the Mavericks a 10-0 lead at the 11:20 mark. The Chargers responded with two unanswered goals to make it 10-2 before Scorcia scored with 31 seconds left in the quarter to give Mercy an 11-2 lead at halftime.

Janavey, MacSpadyen, Gibbons and McPartland started the scoring in the third quarter to put Mercy ahead 15-2 at the 10:29 mark. Dominican scored two straight to make it 15-4 before LoRicco and Stockton finished off the quarter with goals to give Mercy a 17-4 advantage after three quarters.

Dominican scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to make it 17-5 before Marchelos found the back of the net at the 10:15 mark. The Chargers scored the final goal of the game at the 8:12 mark but it was not enough as Mercy came away with the win.

Mercy held a 49-24 edge in shots and a 54-32 advantage in ground balls. The Mavericks won 16-of-28 faceoffs.

Head Coach Jordan Levine and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, April 6th when they play at NYIT at 3 p.m.
