Four Different Mavericks Score as No. 16 Men's Soccer Defeats Millersville, 4-1

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 14, 2019) – Powered by four different Mavericks scoring, the No. 16 Mercy College men's soccer team earned a 4-1 victory over Millersville University on Saturday night at Pucillo Field.

The Mavericks (3-0-1) remain unbeaten on the season, while the Marauders (1-2) have dropped two of their first three games.

Senior Maximiliano Rebolledo-Camus (Santiago, Chile/Saint George's College) had a goal and an assist and seniors Santiago Corral (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Instituto Francesco Faa Di Bruno), Manuel Achondo (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Del Verbo Divino) and Kevin Rodriguez (Queens, N.Y./ASA College) also scored. Senior Gaston Rozenblum (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Escuelas Tecnicas ORT) had an assist and junior Joel Serrano (Arecibo, P.R./Marshalltown CC) made one save to earn the win.

Millersville received a goal from Jake Gosselin and an assist from Roger Buesmaill Jr. Brady Hochman made seven saves to take the loss.

After a shot by both teams early on, Mercy got on the board first in the 20th minute when Rebolledo-Camus fed a cross to Corral, who beat the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

The Mavericks continued to dominate the action and scored again in the 38th minute when Achondo finished off a Rozenblum corner kick to make it 2-0. It remained 2-0 heading into halftime with Mercy holding a 9-1 edge in shots.

Millersville wasted little time on scoring in the second half with Gosselin scoring in the 47th minute to get the Marauders within, 2-1. The momentum was short-lived as Rodriguez tallied a goal less than a minute later to put the Mavericks up, 3-1.

Rebolledo-Camus put the finishing touches on the win with a penalty kick goal in the 57th minute, which made it 4-1. The Mercy backline allowed just one shot on goal the remainder of the contest to give the Mavericks their third win of the season.

Mercy held a 22-5 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Pedro Velazquez and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, September 17th when they play at Dominican at 2 p.m.
