Game Preview: Women's Basketball Hosts Bridgeport on Saturday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Jan. 23, 2020) – The Mercy College women's basketball team resumes action on Saturday, January 25th when they host University of Bridgeport in an ECC matchup.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy looks to snap a nine-game losing streak and is coming off a 61-48 loss at Molloy on Saturday. The Mavericks are looking to defeat Bridgeport for the first time at home since January 15, 2011. Mercy currently leads the ECC in rebounds per game (42.6) and leads the ECC in free throws made (261) and attempts (393). The Mavericks are led by junior Amber Brown who leads the team with 13.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Freshman Katie Wall is second on the team with 11.9 points per game and leads the team with 3.3 assists per game. The three-time ECC Rookie of the Week also shoots 40.2 percent from downtown (No. 2 in ECC) and averages a team-high 1.8 made threes per game. Senior Abigail Collier is third on the team with 8.8 points per game and is shooting a team-best 48.7 percent from the floor (No. 5 in ECC). Sophomore Taysha Bender is putting up 6.9 points per game and is averaging 11.5 points per game over her last two games.

Scouting the Purple Knights

Bridgeport is currently on a six-game losing streak and is coming off a 75-66 loss at St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday. The Purple Knights are 0-8 in road games and are second in the ECC in free throw percentage (73.3). Bridgeport is led by junior Alyzae Davis who averages a team-high 10.2 points per game and averages 1.4 made three-pointers per game. Junior Samirah Henderson is second on the team with 9.7 points per game and averages a team-high 1.6 made three-pointers per game. Freshman Gracen Kerr is a two-time ECC Rookie of the Week and is third on the team with 9.6 points per game. The freshman also averages a team-high 4.0 assists per game and 1.6 steals per game. Senior Kyle Felton is fourth on the team with 8.1 points per game and leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game.

Mercy resumes action on Saturday, February 1st when they play at St. Thomas Aquinas at 1 p.m.
