Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is looking to pick up their second straight win after earning a 71-68 win over Bridgeport in their last game on Saturday. The Mavericks are looking to pick up their first win over the Spartans since January 14, 2009 and are searching for their first win at St. Thomas Aquinas since 1985. Mercy is currently fourth in the ECC in points per game (63.0) and leads the ECC in free throws made (287) and attempts (426). The Mavericks also lead the conference in rebounds per game (42.7) and are led by junior Amber Brown who averages a team-high 13.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. The forward has seven double-doubles on the year and has two double-doubles in her last three games. Freshman Katie Wall is a three-time ECC Rookie of the Week and is second on the team with 12.1 points per game. The guard also leads the team with 1.9 made three-pointers per game and 3.3 assists per game. Wall is currently second in the ECC in three-point percentage (41.9) and leads the ECC in free throw percentage (85.7). Senior Abigail Collier was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll earlier this week and is third on the team with 8.9 points per game and is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore Taysha Bender is averaging 10.5 points per game in ECC play and is fourth on the team averaging 7.5 points per game on the year.
Scouting the Spartans
St. Thomas Aquinas is currently on a six-game winning streak and is coming off a 76-58 win over District of Columbia on Saturday. The Spartans are currently receiving votes in the latest WBCA and D2SIDA Top 25 polls and are ranked No. 4 in the latest D2SIDA East Region Media Poll. St. Thomas Aquinas leads the ECC in points per game (73.5), field goal percentage (46.7), three-point field goal percentage (33.4) and steals (11.4). The Spartans are led by two-time ECC Player of the Week and one-time Defensive Player of the Week senior Melissa Sadler who is averaging a team-high 14.2 points per game with 5.5 rebounds per game and 1.3 steals per game. One-time ECC Player of the Week and two-time Defensive Player of the Week senior Ruth Adams is second on the team with 13.6 points per game and averages a team-high 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. One-time ECC Player of the Week junior Zaria Thomas also averages double figures with 11.6 points per game and a team-high 2.3 three-pointers per game.
