Game Preview: Women's Basketball Plays at Roberts Wesleyan and Daemen This Weekend

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2020) – The Mercy College women's basketball team resumes action on Friday, February 14th when they play at Roberts Wesleyan. The Mavericks conclude the trip with a game at Daemen on Sunday, February 16th.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy looks to snap a three-game losing streak and is coming off a 91-60 loss to New York Tech on Saturday. The Mavericks sit 2.5 games behind Queens for the sixth and final ECC Tournament spot with five games left in the regular season. Mercy is currently No. 4 in the ECC in points per game (62.1), leads the ECC in free throws made (322) and attempted (487) and is first in rebounds per game (41.4). The Mavericks are looking to beat Roberts Wesleyan for the first time in program history and are looking to win at Daemen for the first time since January 9, 2016. Leading the Mavericks is junior Amber Brown who is averaging a team-high 12.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in 28.6 minutes per game. Freshman Katie Wall is a three-time ECC Rookie of the Week and is second on the team with 11.6 points per game. The guard also leads the team with 3.2 assists per game, 1.9 made threes per game and an 84.1 percent free throw percentage (No. 1 in ECC). Senior Abigail Collier is third on the team with 9.1 points per game and is second on the team with 5.2 rebounds per game. The center is shooting a team-high 50.4 percent from the floor and leads the team in blocks. Sophomore Taysha Bender ranks fourth on the team with 7.3 points per game and senior Destinee Hall has scored in double figures in three of last six games.

 

Scouting the Redhawks

Roberts Wesleyan snapped a four-game losing streak in their last game at Bridgeport on Sunday. The Redhawks currently sit in fifth place in the ECC standings with the top six qualifying for the ECC Tournament. Roberts Wesleyan is second in the ECC in three-pointers made (148) and is second in free throw percentage (72.9). The Redhawks also lead the ECC in field goal percentage defense (33.2) and are third in rebounds per game (39.3). Senior Emily Miller leads Roberts Wesleyan with 14.0 points (No. 3 in ECC), 9.5 rebounds (No. 1 in ECC) and 1.3 blocks per game. Senior Sara Nady is second on the team with 10.7 points per game and leads the team with 4.5 assists (No. 1 in ECC) and 1.5 steals per game. Sophomore Taryn Wilson was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week this week and is third on the team with 10.5 points per game. Wilson also shoots 44.2 percent from downtown (No. 1 in ECC) and makes 2.3 three-pointers per game.

 

Scouting the Wildcats

Daemen takes a ten-game winning streak into their matchup with St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday. The Wildcats are currently a game behind the Spartans for first place in the ECC standings. Daemen is currently ranked No. 7 in the D2SIDA East Region Media Poll and is 6-0 at home. The Wildcats are second in the ECC in points per game (70.9) and lead the ECC in three-pointers made (187) and attempted (567). Daemen is also third in the ECC in free throw percentage (72.8) and second in rebounds per game (40.4). Two-time ECC Player of the Week and one-time Defensive Player of the Week junior Caroline White leads the Wildcats with 14.4 points per game (No. 2 in ECC). The forward also averages 6.6 rebounds per game and shoots 46.2 percent from the floor. One-time ECC Player of the Week junior Tiara Filbert is second on the team with 14.0 points per game and leads the team with 3.5 assists per game. Two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week sophomore Katie Titus is putting up 13.2 points per game and a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game. Senior Jordan Heinold and graduate student Ashli Jeune average 11.5 and 10.3 points per game, respectively.
