Lee Scores Career-High 12 Points as Women's Basketball Hosts New York Tech

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2020) – Despite a career-high 12 points from freshman Brianna Lee (Elmont, N.Y./Saint Mary's), the Mercy College women's basketball team dropped a 91-60 decision to ECC foe New York Tech on Saturday afternoon at Victory Hall Sports Center.

The Mavericks (7-15, 1-10 ECC) have dropped three games in a row, while the Bears (13-9, 6-4 ECC) sweep the season series.

Lee added five rebounds and one block. Junior Amber Brown (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) finished with 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting and freshman Katie Wall (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) had 11 points on 3-for-6 shooting from downtown. Seniors Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, N.Y./Keystone College) and Abigail Collier (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) both netted seven points.

New York Tech was led by Meg Knollmeyer who had a game-high 22 points.

Wall tied the game up at 3-3 at the 7:58 mark of the first quarter. The Bears followed with an 11-2 run to increase the lead to nine, 14-5, with 2:24 left in the opening quarter. Lee drained a layup to make it 14-7, but New York Tech capped off the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 21-9 lead after one quarter.

Mercy cut the deficit to 11, 27-16, with 6:42 left in the half following a Wall three. The visitors followed with a 10-1 run to build the lead to 20, 37-17, with 3:39 on the clock. A pair of Hall free throws made it 37-19, but the Bears ended the half on a 9-2 run to head into halftime up, 46-21.

New York Tech outscored Mercy 20-18 in the third quarter and 25-21 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Mercy shot 41.1 percent (23-for-56) from the floor, 28.6 percent (4-for-14) from downtown and 50.0 percent (10-for-20) from the foul line. New York Tech shot 52.2 percent (35-for-67) from the field, 44.0 percent (11-for-25) from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent (10-for-12) from the charity stripe. New York Tech held a 41-31 edge in rebounds and a 16-7 edge in points off turnovers.

Head Coach Scott Lagas and the Mavericks resume action on Friday, February 14th when they play at Roberts Wesleyan at 6 p.m.
